An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said.
“It is a terrible fight between two wolves. One is dark – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is light – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you. It rages inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute. Then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
Thoughts are extremely powerful. They lead to emotions. Emotions lead to actions. If we give energy to thoughts of negativity, blame, victimhood, injustice, poverty, or illness, we feed the dark wolf. Then the darkness grows. It grows inside of us and can spill out into the world.
When this happens, challenge yourself to see the other side. The Law of Duality says there is always another side. It’s like two sides of the same coin. One is the face, the other the tail, but it’s still just one coin.
Seeing the light may not change the situation, but it does change the way the situation impacts you. Perhaps you can accept it or even see some good in it when you view it from the perspective of the light. Two wolves rage inside all of us. Which one will you feed?
